Boho DownUnder epitomizes the Eclectics philosophy of mixed textiles in quilting while expanding our "crayon box" a little further by taking on embroidery. The focus fabric was designed by kathy Doughty for Free Spirit Fabrics. It is called Wind Power from her Horizons collection. The whole fabric line has a rather exotic Aussie feel to it and, as is often the case, the fabric speaks loudly in this wallhanging. It is all about texture, color and contrast.
The approach to the embroidery is one of the newer perspectives in this quilty world called boho stitching. The start of boho stitching is embellishing the printed pattern and expanding beyond as the sewer desires.
The kit includes a mix of Eclectic textiles, traditional cottons, wovens, metallic wovens, silk matka, dupioni silk and a bit of home decor. The included pattern walks you through how to handle these alternative textures and guides you through the basic embroidery stitches used in our sample with stitching diagrams and an embroidery legend.
